YWAM stands for Youth With A Mission. It is a missionary organisation founded by Loren Cunningham in 1960. YWAM's motto is to "know God and to make Him known".
This motto represents ywam's first and second values (from a total of 18 values). However, it is clear that ywam's third value (to
"hear God’s voice") is its most foundational. This "hearing God's voice" is akin to the Quaker's inner voice.
Loren Cunningham claims that ywam was birthed from a vision that he had from God. Throughout ywam's history Loren Cunningham has guided the organisation by listening to the inner voice. In an attempt to discern when the voice is from God, Loren Cunningham has devised several methods. These methods include:
-if multiple people "hear" similar things then Loren Cunningham accepts it as from God.
-by listening for a chapter and verse from the Bible without knowing what the reference says. If the passage can be seen to relate to the situation/inner voice then Loren Cunningham accepts it as from God.
-circumstances. Loren Cunningham interprets circumstances to see if they confirm what he has heard.
-"inner conviction"(intuition).
